SEO Improvements

Post by RWAP » Fri Jan 08, 2010 8:16 am

This includes some minor improvements to the Enuuk auction platform in order to provide Search Engine Optimisation as well as the following new features:
  • All fixed priced items are submitted to Google Base (if required) - see note below.
  • A sitemap is also automatically generated to submit changes to TheFind, Google, Yahoo and Bing.
  • A feed is also provided to Twitter (if required) providing a running tweet of each new auction.

NOTE: Google Base is a new means of searching the internet for items to purchase. With our automated submission module, you can add this feature to the Enuuk auction platform, ensuring that your new items are listed on the Google Base search engine for the time that they are live auctions.

If you wish auction items to be submitted to Google Base, you will need the Item Condition module (above) and also the Item Payment Module (below) for this to be accepted by Google Base. You will also need to open your own Google Base account and to ensure that your auctions meet with the terms and conditions of Google Base.

Just a warning that Google Base (also known as Froogle) is no longer free in the UK and USA.

It has also now been renamed Google Shopping.

Instead of providing a free price comparison service for items, you now have to set up a Google Ads account and product feed advert, whereby you bid an amount for each click on your item listing - although you can set a daily limit, and edit the bid to as low as £0.01

I am not sure how this will work for sites such as those based on Enuuk, as the site owners will not necessarily wish to pay for clicks through to third party listings on their sites, unless they increase listing fees to cover this.

Other benefits of the SEO module are:

a) Addition of language parameter within the urls in the sitemap (to allow Google to index pages in other languages)
b) Improved metatags for the various pages

I am also looking at using the titles for each item to overwrite image names, and also a revised approach to URLs.
